lives are dominated by incidental frivolities. The artist's current work is
about conscience, accountability and the balance of our consciousness”
Blown glass pieces based on ‘teardrop’ forms, combining techniques of cast glass, painting, cutting and polishing. Joyous and sad emotions depicting the finely balanced issues representing the formation of life’s scars; relationships, tortured minds, shrouded / transparent behaviour, mental and physical abuse, calming / therapeutic influences. The Abstract portraits within the inner and outer space of the glass tear’s express emotions of human existence through form and colour association. Working in the community & public art sector he witnessed many humanistic frustrations and was moved to re-dress the imbalance this brought to his working methodology. He believes the experiences of the last five years have been instrumental in making his work stronger; “I am always inspired when approaching a spatial decision with my work, addressing the question of who owns a space and who shares it. It’s sometimes wise to allow yourself to be blown in a new direction and carried along by the winds of change”. Cantillon Howell believes that these moments are not to be ignored... |
