A short interview with artist Ken Cantillon Howell...

Where you think the artist ‘fits in’ in today's world?
the artist will always have a significant place in the world. An artist has the ability to think beyond power + money. Therefore, artists are probably the least likely to ‘fit in’ as the world revolves around commerce and trade. However, the artist has to eat.

Getting the balance is the artist’s hardest task. Therefore, we need people with integrity + vision to collaborate with. The best ‘patrons’ are the ones that trust + support the roles of the artist. I will not sell my soul, but I will always give a significant part of my life to any work I’m involved with.

the world is crying out for some honesty, albeit in works of art. Maybe this is the role of art. Where it ’fits in’. To help us survive the barrage of visual + verbal abuse we encounter in our everyday lives. Unless, that is, that the artist has sold their soul.
